 U.S. Intelligence Report Challenges Bush Confrontational Iran Policy Interview with Stephen Zunes, political science professor, conducted by Scott Harris  While the new intelligence report states the U.S. does not know Iran's long-term intentions toward the production of nuclear weapons, the declassified paper contradicts a 2005 National Intelligence Estimate, which found that Iran was determined to develop nuclear arms. Responding to the report that directly challenges his aggressive approach to Iran, President Bush maintained his position that all options are on the table for dealing with Tehran -- and added that the Islamic nation continues to be a danger if they have the knowledge necessary to make a nuclear weapon. National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley stated that the U.S. will continue to pursue sanctions against Iran. Iran has long maintained that its current effort to enrich uranium is designed solely for its civilian nuclear power program. Between The Lines Scott Harris spoke with Stephen Zunes, professor of politics at the University of San Francisco and author of the book, "Tinder Box: U.S. Middle East Policy and the Roots of Terrorism." He assesses the political fallout resulting from the new intelligence report and whether the NIE's conclusions about Iran's nuclear program will reduce the possibility of a U.S. military strike against Tehran. At Alarming Rates, Veterans and Their Families Lack Health Insurance Interview with Dr. Stephanie Woolhandler, co-founder of Physicians for a National Health Program, conducted by Melinda Tuhus 
Almost four million members of veterans' families are uninsured and ineligible for care at the government-run Veterans Administration. Many uninsured middle-income veterans have been barred since 2003 from VA care for health issues that are determined to be unrelated to their military service, but that policy creates many problems of its own. The veterans study, based on detailed analyses of government surveys between 1988 and 2005, was conducted by Harvard Medical School researchers based at the Cambridge Health Alliance. Between The Lines' Melinda Tuhus spoke with Dr. Steffie Woolhandler co-founder of Physicians for a National Health Program, who helped conduct the study. She explains that veterans used to receive comprehensive health coverage, and why they no longer do. Contact Physicians for a National Health Program by calling (312) 782-6006 or visit their website at www.pnhp.org Bolivians Struggle OverRewriting Their Constitution Interview with Benjamin Dangl, editor at Toward Freedom, conducted by Scott Harris  But after the opposition boycotted a vote on a draft of the new constitution, and street violence killed three government opponents and injured 100 in late November, tensions are rising in Bolivia. The assembly has until Dec. 14 to approve a new constitution by a two-thirds vote, but can't do so without the participation of opposition parties. Articles not approved in the assembly will be voted on in a future national referendum. Bolivia is becoming increasingly polarized between indigenous and union activists making up the base of President Morales' Movement Toward Socialism or MAS party, closely allied with Hugo Chavez in Venezuela -- and conservative groups, many from the resource-rich eastern region of the country. He reports from Cochabamba, Bolivia on rising tensions and public opinion on President Morales effort to rewrite the constitution.
