"When the law and his ideology conflict, he tends to go with ideology. And that's about the last quality you want to find in someone who's going to be your attorney general."

– Drew Courtney, communications director with the group People for the American Way, discussing President-Elect Donald Trump's attorney general Sen. Jeff Sessions' public service career regarding voter suppression, women's equality, immigrants and Islamophobia.

Sen. Jeff Sessions' Attorney General Nomination Among Trump's Most Dangerous Cabinet Picks

MP3 Interview with Drew Courtney, communications director with the group People for the American Way, conducted by Scott Harris

sessions

Amid anti-Trump protests across the U.S., members of the Electoral College met at state capitols on Dec. 19. But despite millions of petition signatures and phone calls urging electors to switch their votes, the hoped for upending of the nation’s constitutionally mandated non-democratic Electoral College process failed. In the end, only two Republican electors from Texas voted against Trump, while five of Hillary Clinton’s electors defected, three voting for ex-Secretary of State Colin Powell, one for a Native-American tribal leader and another for Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders. The final Electoral College total was 304 votes for Trump and 227 for Clinton.  Story continues

Trump Administration Intent on Eviscerating Environmental and Climate Protection Regulations

MP3 Interview with Benjamin Schreiber, climate and energy program director with Friends of the Earth, conducted by Scott Harris

climate

When, as expected, Donald Trump won the Electoral College vote on Dec. 19, clearing the way for his presidential inauguration on Jan. 20, it was in keeping with the fact-free nature of the 2016 campaign that more than half of the Republican candidate’s supporters believe that he had won the popular vote, when in fact Hillary Clinton won the election by some 2.8 million votes. Like Trump, many of his supporters also mistakenly believe that climate change is a hoax. According to an October Pew poll, 47 percent of those who back Trump say the Earth is warming because of natural patterns, while 30 percent believe there is no solid evidence the Earth is warming at all. Only 22 percent of those polled who support Trump say the Earth is warming mostly because of human activity, as virtually all the world's scientists have concluded.  Story continues

Trump's New Extremist Ambassador to Israel Removes Fig Leaf from U.S. Middle East Policy

President-Elect Donald Trump’s appointments have enraged and worried many Americans no matter what their priorities, whether it’s health care, labor rights, environment and climate change, or other issues. He has given the nod to individuals in many cases who have promised to destroy the very agencies they’ve been appointed to lead.  Story continues
