As He Runs for Re-Election, Trump Moves to Make Peace Deal with Taliban

Interview with Melvin Goodman, a senior fellow at the Center for International Policy, conducted by Scott Harris

Melvin Goodman discusses negotiations now underway between the Trump administration and Taliban to reach a peace agreement that would lay the groundwork for the eventual withdrawal of U.S. troops. He assesses the cost of this decades-long war on the Afghan people and what the future may hold for the war-torn nation.

Melvin Goodman is also an adjunct professor of international relations at Johns Hopkins University, worked for 42-years in government service with tours at the CIA, the State Department and the Department of Defense’s National War College. Goodman, is the author of five books. His latest is titled, “American Carnage: The Wars of Donald Trump.”
